Kevin Bates, the creator of AUDUBOY—a full-fledged miniature gaming system in a credit card-sized package—is now working on his new project, Singleboard Alpha. This concept involves a single-board computer built around the ESP32-S3 as its core.

Kevin released a video showcasing the First version of Singleboard Alpha on YouTube. One of the most intriguing features is the concept of a capacitive touch keyboard, configured in a matrix similar to a "Charlieplex". This keyboard layout is designed with overlapping V's, inspired by the ZX Spectrum.

The components used in this project include the ESP32-S3, a 320x172 LCD (ST7789), a push-on/hold-off monolithic power switch, a battery charger, 3x 1.5mm Neopixels, a 40-key capacitive matrix touch keyboard, an SD card, and later this project also received an update introducing a speaker and an improved keyboard.

As of the latest update, Kevin Bates confirmed that displaying the contents from the SD card to the LCD Display was working fine which can be seen below.

Kevin Bates' initiative with the Singleboard Alpha concept is commendable, and we eagerly anticipate further developments from this project. For makers interested in similar projects, Kevin encourages sharing knowledge and experiences on his forum.
