Tata, Bosch Ink Pact on Chip and Auto Electronics

To collaborate on key areas in semiconductor manufacturing and automotive electronics, Tata Electronics and Robert Bosch GmbH have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under this strategic partnership between the two big players in the electronics sector, the companies plan to undertake joint efforts in chip packaging and manufacturing at Tata Electronics’ upcoming facilities in Assam and Gujarat.

The focus area includes an assembly and test unit in Assam and a semiconductor foundry in Gujarat. Further, the companies will work together to find opportunities around electronics for vehicles in India using Tata’s EMS capabilities. Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, believes that the collaboration aligns with the goals of building a reliable supply chain and amplifies India’s electronics and semiconductor presence. Dirk Kress, Bosch’s Executive Vice President of Semiconductor Operations, highlighted the upward trajectory of demand for advanced automotive electronics.

Tata Electronics is a greenfield venture of the Tata Group that was established in 2020. It operates in EMS, semiconductor assembly and testing, foundry services, and electronics design. It has over 65,000 people in its employ spanning over multiple Indian states, including Gujarat, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Bosch is a global supplier of technology and services. It operates across mobility, industrial technology, consumer goods, energy, and building solutions. This alliance comes at a time when India is eyeing independence in the chip manufacturing space.
